Lens Material
Bullet proof attack helicopter windscreens are made from NXT/Trivex®. The military required a material that was bullet proof, light weight and optically superior. Trivex®/NXT® is an exceptional optical polymer that incorporates all of these attributes and that was specifically developed to fulfil the contract. In our opinion Trivex®/NXT® is the best sunlens material on the planet and that’s the reason why every Bigatmo sunlens is made from it.
By incorporating colour tints and patented active technologies directly into the material, we have three exceptional lens types for you to choose from: the Bigatmo Copper/Brown Alutra Photochromic, Bigatmo HCNB Grey Zeolite and Bigatmo HCNB Grey Zeolite Polarized
Coatings
Having the best lens material is only part of the story. To improve performance and achieve the ultimate lens you also need to have advanced coatings applied to the lens surfaces. Each coating plays a specific role and here’s where we explain each one for you:
Inner Surface, 8 Layer Anti-reflective Coating
Reduce Reflected Light
Light reflecting off the back of the lens is irritating, dramatically reduces clarity and can result in up to 5% of available UV light entering the unprotected eye. To keep you more comfortable, we apply an industry leading 8-layer anti-reflective coating onto the back of all Bigatmo lenses.
Benefit from Wrapped Frame
Also to exclude as much light as possible entering from the rear of the lens, Bigatmo frames have a 23˚ wrap with a curved lens that hugs the contours of your face. In conventional sunglasses the curved lens can distort the periphery of the image and make objects appear out of position. This can be very disorientating and unpleasant. Bigatmo lenses use optical decentering to overcome this problem. This means, objects remain in position and the image stays sharp, so you feel relaxed and focused.

Most Advanced Mirror Technology
You can customise your sunglasses with a cosmetic mirror finish, which looks great and allows the lens to perform as it was designed to. Our standard mirrors are made from multi-layer dielectic coatings, as this type of mirror doesn’t interfere with any of the lens properties and provides a light, subtle finish to your sunglasses.
Benefits of Gradient Mirror
Conversely, Bigatmo gradient mirrors use a more traditional chromium compound on the top half of the lens to reduce light transmission. This helps to reduce extreme glare from above whilst retaining the lens properties below which makes them ideal for high contrast environments such as driving or flight deck conditions.

All Bigatmo lenses have an omniphobic treatment applied to both the front and the back of the lens.
This makes lenses not only easier to clean, but also stay cleaner for longer because, the coating quickly disperses water, sweat, make-up and suntan lotion which makes cleaning quicker and easier for you.
